On April 18th, 2023, Puglia Region signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the representatives of the parks and protected marine areas in Puglia, at the Headquarters of Puglia Region Department of Tourism, Economy of Culture and Valorization of Territory, within the framework of MEDUSA "Development and promotion of Mediterranean Sustainable Adventure Tourism" project, funded by the Interreg ENI CBC MED Program.

Since the start of the project, Puglia Region has involved the parks and protected areas of Puglia in the planning and implementation of activities in the five Apulian pilot areas: Gargano National Park, Alta Murgia National Park, Torre Guaceto Marine Protected Area Nature Reserve, Terra delle Gravine Regional Natural Park and Costa Otranto-Santa Maria di Leuca Regional Natural Park.

The end result was the brokerage of a strategic alliance by virtue of a Memorandum of Understanding, with the aim of coordinating the efforts of each stakeholder, also with reference to European funding opportunities, to experiment with a shared model for sustainable management of Adventure Tourism in Puglia.

By signing the memorandum, the members of the Adventure Tourism Management Committee of the Puglia Region undertake to contribute to the development of the Adventure Tourism sector in their reference areas, providing human resources, know-how, access to information, promotion and publicity, through monthly meetings open to the Council of Operators, who will support the activities of the Committee with their contribution and with their proposals.

The MoU was conceived as an open document which could subsequently be signed by other organizations interested in developing joint projects, which could involve operators to develop common actions, spread throughout the territory, in a cross-border vision.
