About the project

The Mediterranean area suffers from extremely high rates of youth and female unemployment. To face this challenge, GREENLAND promotes social inclusion and fight against poverty by providing unskilled and underprivileged young people with marketable skills in the Green and Circular Economy, with the potential to generate thousands of jobs. To reach its objective, the project will create new curricula based on market needs, skills transfer to NEETs and women, media-based training tools, and cultural exchanges among young people. The creation of new employment opportunities will be reinforced by the sector-skills alliances between TVETs and SMEs.

Objective

To increase the employability of NEETs (up to 30 years old) and women (all ages) by providing them with marketable skills and qualifications to prepare them for skill-based occupations within the Green and Circular Economy sectors and reduce skill mismatches in rural areas particularly affected by the climate change

What will be improved?

On the environmental side, the project will increase skills for a resource-efficient and inclusive Green Economy that ultimately contributes to combating climate change, reducing the mismatch between the labour market and skills. On the economic side, GREENLAND will support the engagement of NEETs and women to set up enterprises in the Green and Circular Economy sectors.

Contribution to policy-making

GREENLAND will support policy-makers in the development of action plans that strengthen the creation of new green jobs for young people. The inclusion of national and local authorities, as well as relevant associated partners, in the development of training activities and profiling tools will contribute to the development of strategies which will be implemented at local level. The key action with a potential high-impact at policy-making level is the job-shadowing experience for key staff of concerned institutions. The project uses European, national and local policies based on youth, employment, agriculture and reduction of poverty as a springboard to increase the efficiency of existing relevant policies.

Description

The Mediterranean area suffers from extremely high rates of youth/female unemployment levels and climate change. If we are to make a sea change in the way our society produces, it will need skilled workers to push it through. GREENLAND sets out a series of incisive training actions for NEETS and women within the Green and Circular Economy (GaCE), with long-lasting, Policy-relevant innovations. The partnership is extremely well-balanced, experienced and geographically well-distributed, also regarding public-private organizations, education/training, employment and GaCE know-how. It is inherently highly influential in terms of introducing policy change. Greater impact is ensured in this strategic project not simply through the large numbers reached, but also through long-lasting effects. GREENLAND ensures that key public and private organizations are actively involved and creates the opportunities and skills for Policy innovation to take place. The GREENLAND outputs include labour market analysis to identify 2900 NEETs/Women through profiling, curricula development and skills transfer to NEETs/Women (mentoring, training, e-learning tools, soft-skills coaching developed through “sector-skills alliances” between TVETs and SMEs), 210 national/cross-border traineeships in enterprise and 18 job-shadowing for key staff of policy-making institutions: an action with an exceptionally high-impact at policy-making level. Through the creation of an Entrepreneurial Green Network (EGN), 7 agreements and 7 long-term Action plans (APs), key actors from 7 Med nations (public authorities, TVETs, employment agencies, SMEs) will be brought around the same table to foster Policy innovation in Green Growth job creation and training targeting NEETs. 7 MoU and capitalisation of 7 APs will have an impact on the youth labour force participation rates in the MED area. The final beneficiaries will be NEETs/women, TVETs, SMEs, public institutions and employment agencies, and the whole community.
