Promoting Sustainable Adventure Tourism: Maxim Chaaya's keynote speech at MEDUSA Final Conference

Maxim Chaya, the renowned Lebanese adventurer and athlete, a sportsman, mountaineer, and explorer who accomplished the Seven Summits challenge becoming the first Lebanese to climb Mount Everest, the person from the Middle East to travel on foot from the Antarctic coast to the South Pole in an unsupported and unassisted expedition and walked all the way from Canada to the North Pole on foot, delivered a keynote speech at the MEDUSA final conference held at the Sursock Museum in Beirut, Lebanon to conclude the project's activities in the various countries in which it was implemented which are Spain, Lebanon, Italy, Jordan and Tunisia.

In his speech, Chaya highlighted the unique characteristics that make Lebanon an ideal destination for adventure tourism. He cited Lebanon's geography, climate, people, history, cuisine, and biodiversity as key factors that set it apart from other countries in the region.  He spoke about the four distinct seasons that Lebanon enjoys, with each season offering a unique experience for tourists. Moreover, Chaya emphasized the importance of sustainability in tourism development and urged stakeholders to work towards promoting sustainable practices in the industry. He praised the MEDUSA project for its efforts in creating strategic alliances between the public and private sectors to promote sustainable tourism practices in the Mediterranean region.

Chaya also shared his vision for future adventure tourism projects in Lebanon, highlighting the need for an inventory of destinations and a better understanding of the country's unique features. He encouraged stakeholders to collaborate on future projects that would further promote adventure tourism in the region while ensuring its sustainability.
