The ARCHEO Living LAB at the Al-Balqa Applied University in Irbid, Jordan, hosted a significant meeting on the 30th of August, 2023. This visit aimed to give the City Development Group (CDG) members from Jordan first-hand knowledge of the equipment and facilities at the ARCHEO LAB and to understand how the Ph.D. research thesis could apply these resources.

During this meeting, participants were able to familiarize themselves with the state-of-the-art equipment and tools available. Of particular interest was the 3D printer, poised to play a pivotal role in their research. The meeting was convened under the MED-QUAD project, aimed at fostering collaboration and innovation among Mediterranean countries to tackle common challenges in preserving and promoting Cultural Heritage. The gathering marked a vital moment in the partnership between the MED-QUAD team and the City Development Group (CDG) from Yarmouk University (Faculty of Archeology and Anthropology, Department of Conservation and Management of Heritage Resources)

Prof. Rebhi Damseh, the local project manager of the Al Balqa Applied University, the MED-QUAD partner from Jordan, emphasized its core objectives, which include harnessing digital technologies and tools to facilitate the exchange of information about cultural heritage. These tools are designed to provide essential support to museums and institutions responsible for preserving and promoting heritage.

Subsequently, the participants engaged in a fruitful discussion on the technical aspects of the project. This included considerations on selecting artefacts, the intricacies of the 3D printing process, and the development of the augmented reality environment. Prof. Wassef Sakhaineh, representing Yarmouk University and the CDG, shared valuable insights into potential technical challenges and proposed viable solutions for related issues.

Eng. Hadeel Batran, a promising PhD student, is set to partner with ARCHEO Living Lab in Irbid, Jordan, demonstrating the international collaboration at the heart of MED-QUAD.
