The recent Information Event held in Sidon, Lebanon showcased the progress and achievements of the ReSt@rts project, funded by the ENI CBC MED Programme. Hosted by the Chamber of Commerce, Industry, and Agriculture in Sidon and South Lebanon on June 20th, the event brought together representatives from microfinance institutions, universities, socio-economic stakeholders, and entrepreneurs. The speakers shed light on various aspects of the ReSt@rts project and its expected outcomes.

Mrs. Rana El-Sayed, Development Advisor for the Chamber's programs, outlined the key achievements and goals of the ReSt@rts project. She emphasized the importance of conducting a comprehensive study on the microfinance sector, which would identify obstacles and challenges. The study aimed to provide recommendations to the relevant authorities, encompassing material, technical, and legal aspects of microfinance support.

In addition, the ReSt@rts project aimed to establish an association for microfinance service providers within the Arab-Italian Cooperative Chamber in Rome. This association sought to foster dialogue, share experiences, and introduce innovative financing programs and mechanisms.

The project also unveiled an online training course that offered advisory support to entrepreneurs in the Mediterranean region. The course covered essential topics such as business planning, marketing strategies, and investment costs, equipping participants with the necessary skills for success.

One of the noteworthy achievements of the ReSt@rts project was the creation of a 'Digital Market Platform.' This platform served as an open marketplace, connecting entrepreneurs with funding opportunities while ensuring the protection of personal data and intellectual property.

The Chamber's President, Mr. Mohamed Saleh, emphasized the significance of supporting small and medium enterprises (SMEs) since they constituted more than 85% of Lebanese institutions. He lauded the Chamber's initiatives and collaborations with regional and international partners, including the European Union-backed ReSt@rts project.

The event witnessed the signing of memorandums of understanding between the Chamber of Commerce, Industry, and Agriculture in Sidon and the South and USEK University, further solidifying partnerships to support the microfinance sector and entrepreneurs.
