FruitFlyNet-ii in Tunisia disseminated about how to fight against fruit flies

We are delighted to inform the community that the open dissemination event hosted at the headquarters of the Institut de l'Olivier, Sfax, Tunisia, on 11.9.2023 was successfully organised. The event was designed to showcase the FruitFlyNet-ii project and its remarkable economic potential within the olive and fruit tree sectors. The collaboration with project partner, the Regional Center for Research in Horticulture and Biological (CRRHAB), Sousse, Tunisia, brought the event to a fascinating journey into the world of olive and Mediterranean fruit flies. Thus, the event was proven a fruitful day, full of newly exchanged information and collaborations.

In particular the agenda was concentrated in the the critical topic of olive and fruit fly infestation in the region and also the new E-traps developed by the members of the project.

  • Professor Mohieddine Ksantini, co-coordinator in the FruitFlynet-ii project at the Olive Tree Institute, delivered an informative presentation highlighting the importance of the olive fruit fly in Tunisia
  • Professor Mohamed Braham, local coordinator, representing CRRHAB, discussed the significance of the Mediterranean fruit fly and its implications on the Tunisian agricultural landscape.Dr. Ines Ksentini, the local coordinator of the project FruitFlyNet-ii in the Olive Tree Institute, in collaboration with Professor Mohamed Braham, presented an overview of the FruitFlyNet-ii project, encompassing OliveFlyNet and MedFlyNet, which aims to address these pest-related challenges.
