FFN-ii: Location Aware System Deployment in the two Experimental Sites

The objective of this output is to provide information about the various tasks that took place during the 2nd cultivation period (Semesters V-VI) in the two experimental sites of the project aiming to verify the good performance of the e-traps, as well as to test the new functionalities and ensure the good operation of the e-services in the large-area sites. To accomplish the full deployment of the Location Aware (LA) products, the olive and Med e-traps were tested in both sites to satisfy all the evaluation criteria set for the full operation. Noteworthy, the OliveFlyNet was tested in Greece by the Agricultural University of Athens (AUA) and the MedFlyNet in Italy by the University of Molise (UNIMOL). The results for both types of the e-traps tested in the two experimental fields showed very good performance in terms of battery charge level and signal reception.
The e-services of adults’ population distribution map, infestation risk map and spray density map creation were tested by AUA in its experimental site to validate its functionalities in the new environment. A new e-service was developed and tested regarding the automatic digitalization of trees, that is an e-service which facilitates the implementation of the system. An additional e-service which gives the ability to the system to identify the optimum position for placing each trap in each area with olive groves was developed and tested too, so that to rationalize the approaches used. The two new e-services were implemented successfully whereas the updated software was able to produce all the different kind of maps required for the full implementation of the LA e-services.
Finally, a detection and count machine learning test for the case med fruit fly pest was also studied by UNIMOL. Tests related to the automatic recognition of medfly catches in the e-trap were also conducted and showed a very food response.

Roadmap for marine litter policy priorities

Recognizing the pressing need for a collective, multidisciplinary and coordinated vision and long-term strategy for marine litter management with multiple and widespread levels of endorsement, the Plastic Busters CAP sought to develop a roadmap for marine litter policy priorities aiming to promote and encourage a consolidated and ambitious approach based on scientific evidence and lessons learned from regional efforts.
At the heart of the Plastic Busters CAP roadmap lies the knowhow obtained via the overall Plastic Busters Initiative and the corresponding actions on the science-policy-society interface. The roadmap fully utilizes the collective insights from the interplay of scientific research, policy formulation, and societal engagement. The Plastic Busters CAP roadmap is an action-oriented document that identifies a core set of high-impact solutions to effectively combat marine litter. Geared towards targeted stakeholders, there is a particular emphasis on the national and local levels.

Recommendations for addressing marine litter in the Mediterranean

This document provides a comprehensive over- view of the issue of marine litter in the Mediterranean Sea, identifies contributing factors, and presents a set of main recommendations. Eachmain recommendation is further elaborated with detailed strategies for implementation, offering a practical guide for addressing the challenges posed by marine litter in the region.

TRANSDAIRY Innovation & needs of Dairy Value Chain Report

Technical Report about the innovation potential and needs in the Dairy Value Chain (DVC). The results of this report are based on information collected through questionnaires in the Mediterranean region for the demand and offer of new technological solutions. The market needs novel solutions to address the modern challenges in the DVC. Stakeholders are willing to invest in new solutions. On the other hand, there are currently available technological solutions at reasonable prices for the DVC as well as the proper channels to introduce them to the market. Technology transfer and transborder cooperation is required for the wider adoption of novel technological solutions.

TANSDAIRY Crossborder Brokerage Events

The TRANSDAIRY Crossborder Brokerage Events are gatherings designed to facilitate networking and collaboration among stakeholders in the dairy industry across borders. These events serve as platforms for participants to explore potential partnerships, exchange knowledge, and foster innovation within the dairy sector.

3.1.7_Policy Assessment grazed woodlands in Europe, Lebanon and Jordan

Silvo-pastoral systems have significantly contributed in shaping the landscapes of the Mediterranean basin. These systems vary widely according to the differing climatic, cultural and socio-economic conditions under which they are developed playing sheep and goats a crucial role in the farming economy of the Mediterranean basin thanks to their ability to exploit marginal areas, and as well for the limited labour and capital required for their management (Porqueddu et al., 2017). These farming systems have been shown to be resilient to frequent but moderate disturbance factors (i.e. deforestation, periodic fires and grazing) by developing strategies to maximize production of multiple goods and ecosystem services over several millennia (Zapata and Robledano, 2014). The report analyses policies supporting silvo-pastoral systems in Europe and Jordan as well as pastoralism in Lebanon.

3.1.6_Policy Assessment multifunctional olive systems EU level

The report aims to highlight how European agricultural policies promote agroforestry systems (section 1 and 2) and support the olive sector across the EU (section 3). The report is based on the consultation of relevant papers (project reports, scientific literature, European Commission documents) dealing with agricultural policies in Europe. The first part of the report (section 1) focuses on the definition of agroforestry systems and on the extent of agroforestry practices across Europe. In particular, the report aims to highlight the discrepancy between the scientific definition of agroforestry (that includes both trees and shrubs in combination with crops and or livestock) and the definition that was initially receipted by European policy (that included only trees on arable lands, Reg. 1698/2005). This is an important legal aspect, under the political point of view, since agroforestry is usually seen on the border between the agriculture and forestry sectors creating conflicts and confusion among the stakeholder communities, in particular policy makers at different levels (national, regional and local). Section 2 of the report aims to assess the Common Agricultural Policy (2007-2013 and 2014-2020 programming periods) tools and measures promoting the establishment and management of agroforestry systems.

2.8.1_Catalogue of innovations multifunctional olive systems Lebanon

Having identified potentially useful innovations for Mediterranean multifunctional olive systems, the partners of LIVINGAGRO project developed a dedicated Catalogue intended to provide an overview of some of the innovations that may be useful to stakeholders involved with multifunctional olive systems in order to help bring together economic stakeholders and innovators who may be able to collaborate to solve common problems. This activity included assessing the stage of readiness of a potential innovation in Lebanon, as well as which type of challenges it addresses.

Taking into consideration the needs expressed by Lebanese stakeholders, the research team of the Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Chania (MAICh) in collaboration with the Lebanese Agricultural Research Institute (LARI) and their technical teams reviewed the information provided. Following this review, the working group went back to the innovators to address questions and fill in gaps, then incorporated the responses into the innovation descriptions. The Catalogue includes innovations related to precision agriculture, re-using of traditional practices in agroforestry, preparation for climate change, harvest and post-harvest managements and agronomy for sustainable agroforestry systems.

This is one of the integrated Municipal Waste Management Plans (IMWMP) developed within the CLIMA project framework. The IMWMP incorporates specific measures to manage waste, including organic waste, establish ambitious waste reduction targets, and promote the reuse of organic components.

MAIA TAQA Detailed design of the pilot project - Amman

The MAIA-TAQA project focuses on developing and defining a range of innovative services in the field of resource efficiency (RE), by setting up demonstrators in 3 Mediterranean pilot areas, in Lebanon, Egypt, and Jordan. This report illustrates a pilot project implemented in Jordan with the aim of improving and upgrading the provision of power at the Jordan Chamber of Commerce (JOCC) main building in Amman by installing a Building Integrated Photovoltaic System (BIPV).
