Spain will welcome 2023 by eating twelve grapes at the sound of the last twelve chimes of the year, as has been the tradition throughout the country for more than a century.

The tradition dates back to the late 19th or early 20th century when winegrowers needed to sell the surplus from the harvest.

The tradition, which has survived to the present day, is associated with good luck in the coming year.

This year, MedSNAIL in Spain celebrates this tradition with Ohanes grapes, a grape variety at risk of disappearing that is being promoted by the project for its valorisation through platforms such as Slow Food's Ark of Taste, a program that travels the world collecting small-scale quality productions that belong to the cultures, history and traditions of the entire planet.
