SIRCLES in Italy : Feedback from an in-job trainee

This article forms part of a series of publications under SIRCLES project to support circular economy opportunities for employment and social inclusion in our partner territories in Palestine, Lebanon, Spain, Tunisia, Italy, Greece, and Jordan.

In November 2021, Consorzio Italiano Compostatori (CIC), SIRCLES partner in Italy, organized a 20 hours training about Circular Economy. Nearly one year later, Giovanna Silvestri, one of the trainees who received a 10-month contract, gave us her feedback.

Giovanna lives in Puglia, one of the pilot regions of SIRCLES project, characterized by an economy based on agriculture and tourism. She is currently 50 years old and unemployed. She was recruited by SIRCLES project in May 2022 and is receiving professional training on biowaste management, a topic which she knew little about.

Her job until now entailed carrying out surveys on biowaste management to domestic and non-domestic users from the 4 municipalities involved in the project. Based on the results, SIRCLES project will design and carry out awareness-raising and information activities, directed to citizens, restaurants or in schools in order to promote a correct source-separated collection of biowaste.

“I acquired knowledge that made me commit myself not only to the project but also to promote Circular Economy, the need for proper source-separated collection of biowaste, the benefits of compost for soil.”
