CROSSDEV final event in Jordan: enhancing sustainable tourism between Umm Qais and Aqaba

Under the patronage of HE Dr. Fadi Balawi, the Director-General of the Department of Antiquities of Jordan, the final event of the CROSSDEV project in the country will take place on July 12th, 2023, at the Geneva Hotel, in Amman.
The event is organized collaboratively by both local project’s partners, the Jordan University of Science and Technology (JUST) and The Royal Marine Conservation Society of Jordan (JEREDS).

The final event will serve as a platform to showcase the remarkable accomplishments of CROSSDEV across the last four years. Co-funded by the European Union through the ENI CBC MED Programme, CROSSDEV promoted sustainable cultural tourism and fostered economic growth in the Umm Qais and Aqaba regions.

Distinguished guests, including a representative from the European Union in Amman, and the project stakeholders and small businesses from Umm Qais and Aqaba will participate in the event. Visitors will have the opportunity to witness the display of traditional crafts and products created by the local small business owners involved in the project and awarded with sub-grants.

Dr. Ahmed Freewan and Eng. Waed Al Ajarmeh, Project Managers from JUST and JEREDS, will deliver a comprehensive presentation of the project’s results highlighting the significant achievements accomplished throughout the project's lifespan (2019-2023). Dr. Freewan will shed light on the impact of the project on the community, emphasizing its contributions to sustainable tourism, cultural preservation, and economic empowerment.

The final event of the CROSSDEV project symbolizes a collaborative effort between the project partners to promote cultural tourism, preserve historical heritage, and uplift local communities.
