BERLIN hosts the Final Project Event and the Inauguration of the Nanogrid - Living Lab in Nicosia, Cyprus
After four years of hard work, fruitful transnational cooperation, and great technological inventions we have the pleasure to announce the final event of the ENI CBC Med Project “Cost-effective rehabilitation of public buildings into smart and resilient nano-grids using storage – BERLIN”.
The final event will be combined with the inauguration of the Living Lab developed under the scope of the project at the FOSS Research Centre for Sustainable Energy (one of the BERLIN pilot sites), at the University of Cyprus. The Living Lab integrates photovoltaics, energy storage systems, information technology and demand side management in an innovative way to transform the Lab building into self-sufficient nanogrid. The purpose of the UCY nanogrid is to minimize the interaction with the central power grid with onsite generation of green electricity through solar photovoltaic panels and also energy storage through battery energy storage solution. Additionally, demand side management strategies were adopted to the nanogrid to help optimize its operation and move towards a completely self-sufficient operational pattern.
The event will be a celebration of a journey full of experiences and great achievements. Participants will also have the opportunity to visit the FOSS Nanogrid - Living Lab at the University of Cyprus and see it in operation, the concept of which is only found in a few systems worldwide!
