YEP MED in Spain designs an indicator system to monitor the employability of the port sector

The Port of Barcelona's Training and Employment working group has developed a system of indicators to follow up the achievements and assess the impact and to detect priority actions of social projects in the Port.

This working group was formalised through the signing of the strategic agreement for the promotion of vocational training and employability in the port logistics sector motivated by the YEP MED project in 2021. Since then, its members have been working on different initiatives in the field of port training and employment, including supporting the activities of the ENI CBC MED Programme’s YEP MED project.

The Key Performance Indicator (KPI) system will make it possible to detect whether there has been an increase in employability in the sector by analysing volume indicators such as the number of students in training, the number of companies hosting trainees or the number of students in dual training, as well as whether this employability has been of added value. It will do so by analysing quality elements such as the final placement of students in companies or by measuring the satisfaction on behalf of companies or students.

In order to determine the indicators, an analysis of the information that could be transformed into a successful indicators for the promotion of training actions was carried out by means of interviews with entities of interest. One of the key elements of the indicators was that they must be accessible over a long period of time in order to allow comparisons between different moments in time.

By setting annual objectives based on the Port of Barcelona's strategic plan, the indicators will serve to highlight those initiatives that are helping to improve the quality and employment offers for young people and women within the port community of Barcelona.

The YEP MED Project promotes integration between the education sector, technical vocational and educational training (TVET) and career guidance. The work done under the project will lead to the development of combined approaches that include counselling, mentoring, specialized employment advisory support, entrepreneurship promotion, tailor-made training, and job placements.
