Between the 20th of October and the 7th of November 2022, the Port Authority of Civitavecchia in Italy finalised the second edition of the YEP MED training in Administrative Processes in International Trade.

The training lasted 75 hours in total and took place both online (through Zoom lectures and workshops) and in person (with in-person visits). The 17 participants, who came from Iran, Italy, Peru, India, and Morocco, are seeking to work in the Civitavecchia port community.

The training was aimed at young graduates and professionals who wanted to learn more about international trade and the workings of the Ports of Rome. Through the simulated practice enterprise methodology, the participants could learn about the subjects by immersing themselves in a virtual environment where they took on the roles of transport operators. This methodology has as its objectives to:

Promote the simultaneous and integrated development of functional competencies of organisational management through a simulation device that allows for contextualized and experiential knowledge.

Stimulate the responsible and autonomous development of the participant to become fluent in problem solving and decision-making in the event of unforeseen circumstances, incidents and conflicts produced by the dynamics of a company and its interactions with customers and suppliers.

Contribute to the occupational guidance of participants and the employability of unemployed through role-playing tests and specific tasks typical of the world of work.

The classes given focused on freight forwarding operations, insurance management, customer risk analysis, credit management, invoicing and tax treatment of international trade transactions. Following the theoretical lectures, participants were divided into teams and given access to a virtual port community – Port Virtual Lab - where they had to perform international transport operations.

The successful graduates will now apply for internships in companies located in the Civitavecchia port community, therewith further cementing their knowledge and preparation for full-time employment.
