The TEC-MED project promotes technological literacy in Mediterranean countries and its use in the health sector

TEC-MED Model, “Development of a Transcultural social-ethical-care model for the dependent population in Mediterranean basin” patient and family-centered collaborative care approach is an innovative model which focuses on improving the quality of care through personalized capacity building, education support, as well as awareness-raising on the health and social conditions of these people.  The TEC-MED model is supported by a software platform;  Caring and Learning Platform which provides a holistic health and social assessment with individualized care. TEC-MED model is intended to promote health and well-being among Seniors and their families. This social care model offers a holistic approach to health that promotes mental, physical, and emotional comfort.

TEC-MED model for promoting technological literacy

TEC-MED model is supported by a software platform caring and learning platform. Learning how to use the TEC-MED platform to assess their health state doesn’t just help seniors and families go about life more efficiently; it also empowers their capacity-building in care and reinforces the networking community.

Programs for diet

Eating well is the key to aging well.  Eating well helps promote better health and reduce the risk of noncommunicable diseases such as diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, and obesity. Through The TEC-MED Interventions, Seniors are supported by a nutritionist which has plenty of resources available to answer common questions they might have. Nutritionist and doctors give seniors and their families diet programs for living healthier and more fulfilled lives.

Exercise programs

Exercise has been proven to be virtuous for seniors, and it should be a part of their daily routine.  Studies show that physical activity reduces the risk of health issues like high blood pressure and cholesterol, diabetes, bone, and joint problems, and even some cancers. The TEC-MED model interventions offer seniors workshops on mobility for people aged 60 years and over. These workshops encourage them to get at least 30 minutes of moderate physical activity daily, such as fitness programs, walking, gardening, and housework that seniors can consider and practice regularly with the support of their families.

Mental health support

TEC-MED Model interventions provide mental support for elderlies and their family caregivers. Seniors and their families reported improvements in sleep, resilience, and overall well-being.

Interventions for loneliness

Loneliness is a huge problem that affects many seniors. Fortunately, with TEC-MED project seniors and their families related to seniors’ clubs and NGOs can help seniors struggling with loneliness. For example, many clubs organize senior-centered activities such as chess, painting, or outdoor activities like walks or journeys to help them socialize and make new relationships.

Attending these social events allows seniors to age well in their community for as long as possible and connects them with like-minded people.

TEC-MED model social care is an effective and centered elderly and family model. It is suitable for the family to prevent the isolation of elderly people. The TEC-MED caring model is based on empowerment and reinforcing the capacity building of seniors in care and the provision of family support to the elderly, carrying out family health tasks, and the participation of the elderly to engage in social activities.
