Their names are Jawaher, Manel, Tuleen, Abdallah, Mahmoud, Sofiène, Emna, Khaled, Mourad, Alexandra, Sarah and Alia. Twelve young people aged between 18 and 29 from France, Lebanon, Jordan and Tunisia who belong to the category of NEETs, i.e. young people who are neither in employment, nor in school, nor in training. Their profiles are varied and their motivations diverse, but one thing unites them: they believe in the virtues of volunteering, exchange, solidarity and sharing. So they put their intelligence, talent, enthusiasm and energy to work for a local project in Hammamet on a voluntary basis for 15 days.

Gathered in a training workshop from February 22 to March 8, 2023 at the House of the Environment in Hammamet and supervised by the experts and facilitators of the Association d'Education Relative à l'Environment (AERE), a partner of RESMYLE, this group is working on the "Creation of a cultural and tourist circuit in the Medina of Hammamet".

The general objective of the workshop is to contribute to the promotion of cultural tourism in the city of Hammamet thanks to a better knowledge of the tangible and intangible heritage of the Medina of Hammamet, to the sensitization and mobilization of the local actors around the stakes of heritage tourism on the territory and finally to the proposal of concrete tools for the tourist development of the heritage of the Medina.

The main results expected from this workshop are the elaboration of a selective inventory of the tangible and intangible heritage of the Medina of Hammamet, the production of informative supports on the heritage and the elaboration of a map on which the circuits identified by the young participants appear.

We went to meet the participants in the workshop to gather their impressions and expectations of this project in which they are the main actors.

Abdallah, 26 years old, a Jordanian, is an agricultural engineer looking for a job. He is the first to confide in us: "I signed up for this workshop because the themes of ecology and sustainable tourism interest me and are part of my academic curriculum. This workshop gives me the opportunity to get practical and concrete". In front of her computer screen, Emna, 23 years old, from Hammamet and a graduate in environmental sciences, explains that what pushed her to apply for this workshop was the desire to deepen her knowledge in the field of architecture, history and heritage. Moreover, "it is an excellent opportunity for me to meet and exchange with other young people", she adds. As for Tuleen from Jordan, 29, an unemployed architecture graduate, she is delighted to take part in the multidisciplinary workshop. "I am very involved in civil society, the project fits perfectly with my own personal background and the themes of environment and heritage are subjects I appreciate".

Other volunteers such as Mourad, Manel and Jawaher are full of praise for the seriousness, kindness and availability of the team of supervisors and facilitators, made up of Mehdi Ismail, Hamdi Mrad, Romana Sahli, Chiheb Ben Fredj... and above all, the head facilitator, Imène Ismail, a cultural mediator who manages the group of young people with a master's hand so that, in addition to technical and professional skills, they acquire soft skills such as time management, discipline, collaborative work, a participatory approach, listening and co-construction. These are all skills that will serve them throughout their lives.

The results of this workshop will be presented during a public session strongly mediated by AERE and its partners on Tuesday 07th of March 2023 at the municipality of Hammamet. The presentation will be made by the participants themselves in the presence of representatives of the local community, the press, local associations, the municipality and technical and financial partners.

This workshop is taking place in the framework of the RESMYLE project - Rethinking employment and social inclusion of Mediterranean youth through sustainable development - funded by the European Union's ENI CBC MED Programme.

RESMYLE is a project that brings together 8 Mediterranean actors from 5 countries (France, Italy, Jordan, Lebanon and Tunisia). Its activities revolve around 3 synergistic axes of intervention: environmental education, practical field training and support to eco-entrepreneurship.
