Between the 4th and 17th November 2021, 12 young Mediterranean NEETS participated in the international training workshop organized by RESMYLE project partner Association for the Development  of Rural capacities (ADR), to produce an itinerary of natural and cultural sites in Tyre Caza “All Around Tyre” in order to “Valorize the cultural identity and natural heritage in villages of Tyre Caza”.

The participants in the workshop all belong to the NEETS category (young people aged between 18 and 30 who are neither in employment, nor in education, nor in training). Nine young people are Lebanese from different regions of Lebanon, two young people are Jordanian and one participant is from Tunisia. They were supported by experts in responsible tourism and rural development.

The first phase of the workshop was devoted to the introduction to tourism in order to understand the historical background of tourism, its importance to the valorization of culture and nature, and its economic value, to understand the terminologies of sustainable, responsible and ecotourism, the organic relation that exists between ecotourism and protected areas and understand the impact that tourism has on nature, sites, people and economy. In addition, participants were trained on how to identify natural and cultural heritage; how to get the information from the interviewee; how to do the mapping and how to fill the questionnaire in order to be prepared for the next phase of the workshop.

During the field work, the young participants visited a number of villages in Tyre Caza where they met the representative of local authorities (The Municipalities, Mayors, Union of Municipality) in order to identify the sites having cultural and natural importance in Tyre, Qana, Deir Qanoun Ras El Ein, Bourj Rahal, Derdghaya, Bedyas and Deir Kifa in order to map cultural and natural locations in these villages to be evaluated in order to build the itinerary based in the findings of the field work.

All Around Tyre is the itinerary of cultural and natural sites in Tyre Caza produced by the 12 NEETS at the end of the International Training Workshop that will help the visitors of the area to discover hidden Cultural, Traditional, Natural and Spiritual location sites in Tyre caza and giving them a number of eco-tips related to the responsible tourism in order to increase the visitors awareness towards this subject.
