Med4Waste publishes a useful mapping of Mediterranean policies and strategies on waste management

Under Med4Waste a mapping and assessment of local, regional and national policies on waste management has been produced, focusing on the 6 project partner countries, namely: Greece, Italy, Jordan, Lebanon, Spain and Tunisia.

In a nutshell, the work provides, in a non-exhaustive way, an overview of the local context, legislation, national strategies and circular economy policy frameworks of each country mapped while also identifies main gaps and opportunities for achieving sustainable waste management for the necessary transition towards a circular economy. Links to the regional frameworks influencing directly and indirectly the national policy settings (EU, UfM, UNEP/MAP, etc.) have also been addressed.

As anticipated, the mapping and assessment activity, coordinated by Med4Waste partner MIO-ECSDE, reveals a varying landscape and make clear that each country has its own specificities. Nonetheless, the valuable conclusions that can be drawn from this exercise as well as the identification of common challenges have been integrated for the development of the Med4Waste Policy Toolkit on Municipal Solid Waste Management which will soon be available, so stay tuned!
