Jordanian Minister of Social Development visits MedTOWN Social Business incubator at Al Koura

On Monday 10/07/2023, Ms. Wafaa Bani Mustafa, the Minister of Social Development of Jordan visited the Social Business Incubator at Al Koura whose establishments and operation is financed by MedTOWN project. The incubator is run by the Jordanian Hashemite Fund for Human Development (JOHUD) and its premises are hosted by the Ministry of Social Development.

During her visit, JOHUD's Sustainability Director, Mr. Anwar El Halah, and Ms. Aseel Al Mkahimer, the organization Natural Resources Management & Environment Programme Coordinator, presented to her the activities of the MedTOWN project in the Social Business Incubator, and the 3 pilot projects that were granted for funding under the MedTOWN sub-grants scheme. Representatives of the pilot projects were also present and highlighted the expected social, economic and environmental impact on the local communities.

JOHUD signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Jordanian Ministry of Social Development under MedTOWN project ‘Co-producing social policies with SSE actors to fight poverty, inequality and social exclusion’ to operate this Social Business Incubator offering training to PWD, women, and refugees.

Over 400 applications for training have been received so far, with 100 beneficiaries already trained on social businesses. More than 10 start-up ideas were established in marginalized rural areas, providing services to local communities based on their needs, particularly in the agricultural and handicraft sectors. The minister was impressed with the project's success and looks forward to replicating it.
