The Region of Central Macedonia, Lead Beneficiary of INTERNISA, organised a three-day event entitled with "Major Advocacy Event"  in Thessaloniki, from October 17th to 19th, 2023.

The INTERNISA project brings together entities from different countries with the primary aim of bridging the digital divide and reducing unemployment, particularly among the female population.

The event  included the organization of a one-day interdisciplinary conference and study visits to businesses and organizations promoting research, education, and employability. It was coordinated by the Deputy Regional Governor for Digital Governance, Mr. Angelos Charisteas, and the Autonomous Directorate for Innovation and Entrepreneurship of the Region of Central Macedonia in Thessaloniki.

The conference was held at the "Emilios Riadis" Multipurpose Hall at the Thessaloniki International Trade and involved the participation of about 75 persons representing the partners from seven different Mediterranean countries (Greece, Italy, Spain, Jordan, Palestine, Lebanon, and Tunisia), as well as representatives from central and local authorities, educational institutions, and the academic community.

The conference proceedings were opened with a welcoming address by the Deputy Regional Governor for Digital Policy of the Region of Central Macedonia, Mr. Angelos Charisteas, who stated: "Through European Programs, we support companies in Central Macedonia while emphasizing the role of women's education." Following Mr. Charisteas, a greeting was delivered by the project manager of the project, Ms. Anthoula Nikopoulou.

Subsequently, distinguished speakers, highly regarded invitees from Europe and the Mediterranean region, elaborated on their positions and views regarding employability, educational programs, and initiatives to empower women. They placed particular emphasis on disseminating results at a pan-European level and in countries of the eastern and southern Mediterranean.

The following two days, participants had the opportunity to visit businesses and organizations in Central Macedonia, observe their activities and practices up close, and gain knowledge and inspiration to enhance women's digital skills.

Finally, within the context of hosting and cultural exchange among participants, tours were organized in the city of Thessaloniki, the archaeological site of Vergina, and the Museum of the Royal Tombs of Aigai. Participants had the opportunity to discover the rich history and culture of the region, forming a more comprehensive image of Central Macedonia and its history. The positive impressions gained by participants from the city and its attractions can serve as valuable tools for promoting tourism in the Region of Central Macedonia.
