The Fundación Pública Andaluza El Legado Andalusí, in partnership with iHeritage: ICT Mediterranean platform for UNESCO cultural heritage project, is currently hosting the "Jardines. Patrimonio y Ensueño" multimedia exhibition at the Corral del Carbón in Granada, Spain. This immersive exhibition features virtual representations of the Cuba and the Zisa, two significant examples of Norman domination on the island. Visitors can also view virtual archaeological reconstructions and holograms of the gardens of the Alhambra and the Albayzin district, as well as plants, works of art, photographs, and museum objects.

The virtual reconstructions of these monuments were created using the paintings of late nineteenth-century painter Rocco Lentini, who imagined the configurations of the ancient sollatia in the "Genoard" park. The park is believed to have expanded beyond the ancient walls of the city up to the slopes of Monreale and Altofonte.

Here is what some of our partners had to say about the exhibition:

“In Granada, buildings and gardens are shown through propellers – Rossella Corrao, Scientific Responsible of the project for the Department of Architecture of the University of Palermo, says - and it allows to verify how much the virtual reconstructions’ representation are influenced by the use of different hardware. The researchers of the Department of Architecture have already exhibited the holograms of the buildings, using holoboxes, during the 2022 Researchers' Night held in the University of Palermo campus on September 30th, involving Living Lab participants and members of the Local Support Group activated within the project”.

“In the holographic exhibition - María de la Concepción de Santa Ana, Managing Director of the El Legado Andalusí Foundation adds – we will therefore combine the concepts of garden and heritage, as we have agreed to reflect in the title. We will invite the visitor to think, like us, of a garden as an ornamental and heritage element. We will immerse ourselves in real and imaginary gardens, made of paper, stone, sound and music, gardens for children, gardens in engravings, in painting, in photography, gardens that have inspired all the arts, and even gardens recreated using the most modern technologies, following the line drawn by the European project iHERITAGE”.

“In the first two days – Lucio Tambuzzo says, iHERITAGE artistic director – the exhibition has already welcomed over 4,000 visitors and represents the beginning of a series of holographic, multimedia, and immersive exhibitions and major international artistic events produced by iHERITAGE, which will be held also in Sicily, Egypt, Jordan, and Lebanon during the next year. The goal is to connect some of the most important UNESCO sites in the Mediterranean and to reveal new aspects and common elements thanks to innovative technologies, showing them as never seen before.

This exhibition is just the beginning of a series of holographic, multimedia, and immersive exhibitions and major international artistic events produced by iHERITAGE, which will be held in Sicily, Egypt, Jordan, and Lebanon in the coming year. The goal of these exhibitions is to connect some of the most important UNESCO sites in the Mediterranean and to reveal new aspects and common elements thanks to innovative technologies, showing them as never seen before.

The "Jardines. Patrimonio y Ensueño" exhibition is open to the public every day from Monday to Sunday, from 9 am to 8 pm and is free to enter. Visitors can expect to see a variety of typical plants from European, Mediterranean, and Andalusian gardens, as well as holographic propellers showcasing the evolution of the Generalife, the summer residence of the Nasrid Sultans of Granada and the Alhambra. The history of Andalusian gardens is also narrated through videos, and visitors can enjoy a virtual archaeological reconstruction of the gardens of the Alhambra and the Albayzin district.

We invite you to visit this immersive multimedia exhibition and experience the beauty of Andalusian gardens through a new lens. The exhibition is open until March 12th and is free to enter, so be sure to mark your calendar and visit us during your next trip to Granada.
