This article forms part of a series of publications under MEDUSA project to promote less-known natural and cultural touristic assets in our partner territories Jordan, Lebanon, Tunisia, Puglia (Italy) and Catalonia (Spain).

Enjoy reading and hope to welcome you soon at one of the wonderful places you will get to know here.

The Camí de Ronda (literally, “path of patrol”) is a trail that connects the entire Costa Brava, from Blanes to Portbou. Rumour has it that it owes its name to the black market: during the 19th and early 20th century, Spanish carabiniers and police used this footpath to control the coast and curtail the smuggling of products such as coffee, chocolate and makeup. In Catalan,  these patrols are referred to “fer la ronda”.

Nowadays, the Camí de Ronda offers a hiking trail by sparkling blue water that connects picturesque seaside villages, impressive cliffs, breathtaking views and hidden coves. You can choose to visit specific sites or  take either the linear (43 kilometres) or circuitous path (140 kilometres), with options for who tranquil leisurely walks and adventurous experienced hikers . The Camí de Ronda is a certain success for all publics.

Your trip might take you to medieval villages carved into rock, like Pals. Or you might end up at sites where you can see stunning views from the castle on Sant Miquel mountain. You might even choose to try the steep climb that connects Aiguablava and Begur... or simply go for a dip on any of the amazing beaches along the way.

If that is not enough, you can also rent a bike or go kayaking near l’Escala before stopping there and enjoying their renowned anchovies and other Mediterranean dishes. In fact, we couldn’t recommend this spot highly enough, as l’Escala is set in the region of l’Alt Empordà, one of the lesser-known more natural and cultural touristic sites that encompassed within the MEDUSA project. To quote ourselves, it is a place where nature reveals its immensity.

Whatever your travelling style, the Camí de Ronda has you covered.
