On 19 November in Livorno (Italy), Co-Evolve4BG participated in the final seminar of the MITOMED+ project with the aim of reinforcing collaboration and synergies between the two initiatives implemented in the field of sustainable tourism in coastal areas.
  
MITOMED+ is a horizontal project funded by the EU under the Interreg MED programme. This project aims to improve the planning of sustainable maritime and coastal tourism in the Northern Mediterranean region by  promoting a "Green Beach Model".

During the event, Co-Evolve4BG was highly involved in discussions about the different problems associated to tourism in the Euro-Mediterranean area, including:. 

• Protection of cultural and natural heritage
• Tourism pressures in the Mediterranean region
• Urbanization
• Waste management
• Reducing negative cultural impacts
• Contamination
• Climate change

Recommendations were formulated to overcome the abovementioned problems:

• Adopt an integrated approach to foster the co-evolution of human activities and natural systems in coastal and marine areas
• Coordinate the action of public administrations at all levels to achieve sustainable tourism
• Improve knowledge related to the tourism sector by applying Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM) principles
• Promote innovative forms of tourism such as ecotourism and the protection and promotion of cultural heritage

The seminar was a great opportunity to present the objectives and expected results of the Co-Evolve4BG and built actual synergies: more specifically, the idea to extend the MITOMED+ database on indicators for sustainable tourism to Mediterranean Partner Countries was discussed. 

The “Co-evolution of coastal human activities & Med natural systems for sustainable tourism & Blue Growth in the Mediterranean” project (Co-Evolve4BG) aims to analyse and promote the co-evolution of human activities and natural eco-systems in touristic coastal areas, towards sustainable development of tourist activities based on the principles of Integrated Coast Zone Management (ICZM) and Maritime Spatial Planning (MSP), promoting at the same time Blue Growth in the Mediterranean.
