The COMMON project promotes a multinational and integrated cooperation with key mediterranean countries. Integrated Coastal Zone Management can be a crucial way to reduce plastic and microplastic that are choking our sea.

The kick-off meeting of the MEDISS “Mediterranean Integrated System for water Supply” project took place in Cagliari at the Faculty of Economics of the University of Cagliari (21-22 October) in the presence of all partners, stakeholders, and representatives of the Managing Authority. ON 22 October, a study visit was organised in Arborea  at the Producers Cooperative, the pilot site for Italy. 

Aqaba Water Company is the Jordanian partner involved in MEDISS project.

MEDISS addresses the issue of improving the quality of saline groundwater present in the Mediterranean area opening alternative irrigation for higher quality and more diversified cultivations (dates, citrus, etc.). According to the features and specific needs of the partner areas, MEDISS will test innovative solutions in the use of treated wastewater and desalination of brackish water. 

The real aim of COMMON project is to connect science and policy. Working on the waste policies in different communities we can realize a kind of best practice laboratory, to expand it across Mediterranean countries.

Serena Carpentieri, Deputy Director of Legambiente Onlus, explains the aims and plans of COMMON project.

The CLIMA project ("Cleaning Innovative Mediterranean Action: reducing waste to boost economies") aims to adress the environmental, economic and social problems of organic waste mismanagement in Italy, Lebanon and Tunisia, developing policy tools like integrated municipal waste management pPlans, innovative technical solutions such as the compost drum and two improved pilot compost sites.
