A demonstration of the pilot installation of the University of Western Macedonia took place in December 2022.

Students from the university and inhabitants of the university dormitories (where the pilot equipment is installed), along with electric vehicles (EV) owners of the local region of Kozani, visited the places where the equipment is installed and got familiar with the pilot operation and the targets of BERLIN project.

The Photovoltaic (PV) inverters, the battery packs, the monitoring equipment, and the EV station were demonstrated during a guided tour through pilot installations. The pilot operation was described, emphasizing on the way this pilot system will transform the building to a self-sufficient nanogrid. It was mentioned that the smart use of PV energy by storing to the batteries the generated energy surplus and by using demand side management is the key to this transformation. The energy management strategies (existing and under development) of the PV were explained.

The feedback received from the participants was very positive and interesting questions were raised, therefore we strongly believe that the concept of the transformation of public buildings into resilient nanogrids was considered to be successfully transferred.
