COP has always been the most important event for an open discussion regarding climate change. Statespersons, policy makers, NGOs, private businesses discuss improvements and good examples on how to combat climate change.

BERLIN’s partner representing Eilat Municipality had the chance to participate in one of these discussions during the COP 27, namely “Leveraging local adaptation – should mayors run the world?”. Local government’s policies aim to make the region of Eilat-Eilot energy independent and free from carbon emissions by 2025. In this context, BERLIN was presented during the discussion as a case of best practice, which enhances Eilat municipality’s efforts to become a carbon free community.

BERLIN aims to implement cross-border pilot measures to support innovative and cost-effective energy rehabilitations in public buildings based on the nano-grid concept, the building block for smart micro-grids. The project focuses on increasing grid penetration, combined with energy storage and demand-side management, along with enhancement of energy efficiency in buildings. The goal is to reach high levels of self-resilience in public buildings and to make them greener, smarter, more innovative, and sustainable.
