MedBEESinessHubs celebrated World Bee Day in the bee-village of Ora in Cyprus on Sunday 21 May 2023, in collaboration with the Pancyprian Beekeepers Association.

The Bee Festival was inaugurated  the Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment Mr. Petros Xenofontos and the Commissioner for the Environment Mrs. Maria Panayiotou, while it was attended by more than 700 visitors.

During the festival and throughout the community there was a large market with honey and beehive products, traditional dishes with honey, handicrafts, while folklore songs and dances entertained all Bee-friends.

The festival was not only a time to celebrate, but also a time to contemplate and engage people of ages in the urgent need to start acting for the protection of the bees and other pollinators. We can all do our bit to save our pollinators:

  1. take every chance to raise awareness on the importance of pollinators
  2. plant bee friendly plants that have nectar on our balconies, terraces and gardens, and create an oasis for us and our pollinators
  3. preserve wild vegetation, which features the most diverse array of flowers
  4. use only natural pesticides which do not harm the bees, and spray in windless weather, either very early in the morning or late at night, when the bees finish collecting nectar from the flowers
