In this article, Dr. Rima AlOmari will introduce us to her start-up H&H. After participating in the BESTMEDGRAPE project and winning, she was able to start achieving her dream.

“H&H” is a start-up company that produces natural dietary supplements made from grape pomace, for weight loss. The supplements come in two different dosage forms product A and product B.

Product A: Metabolic boost tea bags that use grape pomace and seeds.

Product B: Weight loss capsules consisting of flavonoids and resveratrol extracted from grapes. It helps enhance blood circulation and weight loss ability.   

“The inspiration came when I attended the living labs and realized the important benefits of the pomace extract to the body as a dietary supplement which could boost the metabolism hence weight loss ability”, she said.

This product is important because, due to the increased percentage through the years of obesity, the demand for commercial dietary supplements, herbal remedies, and folk remedies increased, Dr. AlOmari explained. In Jordan, the prevalence of overweight (30.0%) and obesity (38.8%) among females is on the rise, encouraging many adults to rely on alternative health care methods to manage their weight. In addition, around 40% of Jordanians reported using some form of complementary and alternative medicine for weight management. Commercial dietary supplements (31.2%), herbal remedies (26.7%), and folk remedies (18.0%) were commonly used.

Now, let’s talk business!

Why does Dr. AlOmari think that this product will succeed once it’s on the market? She responded: “if a customer takes 2 pills every day and the bottle contains 60 pills, he will buy 6 bottles per year. Imagining a cost of 25 JOD per bottle, the patient will spend 100 JOD per SIX months (if 70 % were committed). 40% of Jordanians reported using some form of complementary and alternative medicine for weight management. So, we have 4 million people obese; let’s say that 25% use pills to manage weight and if around 1% of them will buy the product so we will reach 10,000 patients.

This means that we will gain 1.000.000 JOD per year (1,248,245.65 Euro)

In her point of view, being in a safe zone while tackling new roads is the safest plan in anyone’s life. Dr. AlOmari said: “being an employee for a while gives me a reference, relationships, and financial aid. But finding new roads is a must for people who don’t want to wait for the salary at the end of each month but create sustainable routes for financial stability. Thinking that a job makes us secure is lying to ourselves. That’s cruel, and that’s the trap I want you to avoid”.

She quotes Robert T. Kiyosaki: “If you work for money, you give the power to your employer. If money works for you, you keep the power and control it.”
