During the days 24th – 28th June 2023 took place the 2023 ASHRAE Annual Conference in Tampa (Florida, US) where participated our Greek Partner “National Observatory of Athens (NOA)”.

ASHRAE (American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers), founded in 1894, is a global society advancing human well-being through sustainable technology for the built environment. The Society and its members focus on building systems, energy efficiency, indoor air quality and sustainability within the industry. Through research, standards writing, publishing and continuing education, ASHRAE shapes tomorrow’s built environment today.

Within this framework, Dr. Costas Balaras (member of NOA) presented the paper and presentation “Building and City Scale Public Sustainability Assessment System for Mediterranean Cities”. This work summarizes the progress made for enhancing an open method and tools that support assessing, planning, monitoring and rating sustainability of the built environment. The current transnational effort involves Greece, Italy, Jordan, Lebanon, Spain, and Tunisia, that capitalized a sustainability assessment system for buildings and neighbourhoods and upscale it to a city level. Three new pilots are underway to demonstrate its applicability.
