REUSEMED organises a seminar and study visit to explore best practices in reuse and recycling in Italy

The REUSEMED Technical Seminar and Study Visit is set to take place in the cities of Lucca, Capannori and Reggio Emilia in Italy from February 13th to 16th, 2023. The event aims to bring together experts in the field of waste management and reuse to discuss and share the latest developments in the field.

On Tuesday, February 14th, the seminar will take place at the Palazzo Ducale in Lucca. The day will start with institutional greetings by Councillor for the Environment of the municipality of Capannori, Mr. Giordano Del Chiaro, and logistical explanations by Fabio Croci. This will be followed by presentations on the state of the art of the project, where participants will discuss the progress made thus far and what still needs to be done. The focus will then shift to the Work Plan, specifically on Reuse Circuits, Infrastructures & Training, where participants will share the state of their work and their schedule to finish it.

After a break, the day will continue with discussions on the last project activities, specifically on Pilot Tests of Reuse Networks, Infrastructures and APP, Controlled first use by the citizens, Modification/Improvement of Waste Management Plans in the 4 partner cities to mainstream reuse, and Capitalization Interventions by all the partners. The day will end with a study visit to local associations and partners of the Capannori Network for reuse, such as local reuse association Daccapo, local reuse association Lillero and ecological waste disposal centre Salanetti.

On Wednesday, February 15th, the seminar will take place at the City Hall in Capannori. The day will start with discussions on the Financial Plan, specifically on the state of the art of the budget execution, financial risks and budget cuts. This will be followed by a discussion on Communication, where participants will share their recent communication achievements and their schedule until the project end. The day will continue with bilateral tutorials on finances and reporting, communication, circuits, infrastructures, training and new actions. In the afternoon, participants will then have a study visit to local associations and partners of the Capannori Network for reuse such as Centro Rifiuti Zero, local reuse association Terra di Tutti, and local reuse association Bidone.

On Thursday, February 16th, the seminar will take place at the Fondazione Reggio Children and Remida. The day will start with a study visit at Remida, a Creative Recycling Centre that aims to promote the reuse of waste materials by collecting discarded materials from companies. Attendees will have the opportunity to see how waste materials discarded by companies can be collected and proposed for cultural and educational projects. They will also visit the best experiences in reuse within the REUSEMED project such as the book exchange “Saved by Remida” and “The beauty of materials”.

Overall, the Reusemed Technical Seminar is an excellent opportunity to exchange knowledge on waste management and reuse and discuss the latest developments and share their experiences. The event promises to be informative, engaging and thought-provoking, with a focus on sharing best practices and strategies for increasing the reuse of waste materials in cities and communities.

One of the highlights of the event is the study visits, which will give attendees a chance to see firsthand the innovative solutions being implemented in the four partner cities. The visits will provide a valuable opportunity to learn about the successes and challenges of local reuse initiatives and to gain inspiration for future projects.

REUSEMED proposes to create municipal networks based on reuse circuits for home appliances, furniture, books, clothes, Waste Electrical & Electronic Equipment and food. To set up the networks, 4 cities in Spain, Italy, Jordan and Tunisia will design and test composting installations, food collection points in markets, repair and reuse centers, reuse corners in shops and repairing cafes.
