The " Intellectual Properties Capacities for Smart, Sustainable and Inclusive Growth in the Mediterranean Region IPMED" Project in  Jordan Enterprise Development Corporation "JEDCO" and the "Industrial Property Protection Directorate" at the Jordanian Ministry of Industry, Trade and Supply , in cooperation with Al-Yarmouk University, organized on Monday an awareness-session remotely on industrial property rights for 44 professors working in the University in order to clarify the formal and objective conditions required by the Jordanian Protection Industrial Property Law.

The Director of the International Relations and Projects Department at Yarmouk University, Dr.Ghazi Magableh, praised the Minister’s response through the Industrial Property Protection Directorate to their request to know more about the industrial property rights.

The director of the Industrial Property Protection Directorate, Zain Al-Awamleh, referred to the importance of intellectual property rights and the need to strengthen cooperation frameworks between the concerned parties, stressing that this awareness session comes within a series of awareness-raising activities directed at the public and private sector carried out by the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Supply.

Al-Awamleh added that they will discuss the ways of cooperation to sign a joint cooperation agreement between the Ministry and Yarmouk University, to establish a Technology and Innovation Support Centers (TISC) unit aiming at exchanging information related to patents, publications related to intellectual property, and assistance in searching for and retrieving technological information, in addition to training on operations Searching databases, monitoring technology, competitors and basic information on industrial property laws and marketing information.

Mutaz Al-Numair, The project's Coordinator of “Intellectual Properties Capacities for Smart, Sustainable and Inclusive Growth in the Mediterranean Region IPMED" in JEDCO which is implementing through it as a leader in partnership with Greece, Italy, Spain and Tunisia through a total of 1.194 million euros funded by the Cross-Border Cooperation Programme for the Mediterranean Basin within the European Neighborhood Instrument (ENI CBCMED).

Al-Numair said that the main priority of the project is to develop small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), promote economic and social development and support innovative entrepreneurs’ projects. These objectives fall in line with national goals to improve and develop the business environment for SMEs and promote a culture of entrepreneurship.

He added that the project contributes to the innovation potential of start-ups and young and women entrepreneurs through enhancing Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) support by facilitating access to IPR and commercialization schemes, and strengthening IPR-related knowledge and awareness, noting that the project will be implemented over the coming three years.

The awareness session also discussed the concept of trademarks, industrial models, governing legislation, registration guidelines for trademarks and industrial models and the importance of registering industrial property rights and the harms of infringement on them, as well as explaining some topics related to industrial property that aim to increase creative and innovative activities.
