COMMON project: single-use plastics pollution, where does Europe stand?
Today, the Rethink Plastic alliance and the Break Free From Plastic movement released two reports, an assessment of policy measures adopted by EU countries to phase out single-use plastic and a catalogue of best practices that can be replicated or scaled up to support the transition. They show that further ambition is urgently needed and come as the period for EU Member States to transpose the Single Use Plastics Directive comes to an end on 3 July 2021.

GIMED: Ezra, a Palestinian project that helps in growing plants in your house
Ezra is a Palestinian-based start-up whose main goal is producing scalable fully automated plant-growing systems that can fit in any house. These hydroponic units can be displayed in any room of people houses: the backyard, the roof, the balcony or even hanged from the windows. “Our impact on the society is increasing the net income of each person having our product”, recognizes Saleh Abuali, the entrepreneur behind the project.

On 18th June, MedArtSal organised an event in the beautiful venue of Bahía de Cádiz Natural Park in Spain on the occasion of the International Gastronomy Day. The project partners, International Union for Conservation of Nature in the Mediterranean (IUCN-Med) and the University of Cádiz, presented the progress made by the project that reached halfway of its implementation and engaged the audience in a participatory debate on the future of artisanal salt pans.

Med Pearls: Call for Proposals for Slow Tourism Product Creation (Catalonia, Spain)
The Med Pearls project, funded by the European Union under the ENI CBC Med Programme, has the goal to set up a network of 26 Slow Tourism products across 6 Med countries (Egypt, Greece, Italy, Jordan, Palestine and Spain). These products (also called ‘PEARLS’) will share similar characteristics, follow the Slow Tourism spirit and offer equivalent and fully adapted experiences in the different countries. Thus, promoting the Mediterranean in a unique platform to enjoy Slow Tourism experiences at a reduced pace.
