The Director of Energy at the Municipality of Sousse and member of the partnership of the Sustainable MED Cities project, Mr. Noureddine Daga, participated last 8th March in the event organized by SEACAP 4 SDG, another project of the ENI CBC Program. He presented the actions being carried out by the city in relation to energy and climate change plans and show his experiences with the Sustainable MED Cities project.

Throughout the conference, Mr. Daga presented the Energy Action Plan for Sustainability (PAED) of the municipality of Sousse and the main objectives of this plan are:

  1. Meeting the energy needs of the city,
  2. Strengthen initiatives to rationalize electricity consumption.
  3. Support the energy transition in the industrial sector,
  4. To develop alternative energies and promote their use.
  5. Reduce the energy bill of the local administration.
  6. Controlling the environmental impact of polluting sources.

The Sustainable MED cities project is part of this action plan and will provide the city of Sousse with the methodologies and tools necessary to improve the capacity of local authorities to take measures to ensure a sustainable built environment.  It will also help them to adopt different participatory approaches such as Co-creation Labs developed during the ENI-CBC project, as well as to improve Multilevel Governance between different administrations and oragnisations.

Finally, the impact of policy instruments used by the municipality, such as the urban plans, strategic plans and building regulations will also benefit from the implementation of the Decision-Making Methodology developed throughout the Sustainable MED Cities Project.

This event contributed to spread the different synergies between the two projects. Both, Sustainable MED Cities and SEACAP 4 SDG projects, share the same objectives to implement tools and methodologies to improve the energy efficiency of buildings and neighbourhoods in southern Mediterranean cities
