The Royal Society for the Conservation of Nature, MEDUSA project’s partner in Jordan, awarded Edom Adventures the MEDUSA Sub-Grant. Located in Jordan, Edom Adventures is an Eco Tour Agency which promotes adventure tourism in the country by organizing adventure trips and other activities such as trekking, canyoning, mountaineering and climbing. Islam Al-Ma’ani, guide specialist in Adventure Tourism and founder of Edom Adventures, spoke about the Edom Adventures and the plans for the future.

Islam developed his skills and love for adventure tourism after participating in several training and rehabilitation courses, the most recent of which are the courses offered by the French school ENSA on field hiking, traversing valleys and mountain climbing, in addition to the adventure leaders’ course. Thus, he established Edom Adventures with the aim to promote adventure tourism activities in Jordan as he believes that adventure tourism is a very important sector for Jordan that supports its economy.

After receiving the good news that Edom was awarded, Islam was very pleased and very excited for the future. He said: “MEDUSA project is an excellent project targeting the field of Adventure Tourism that needs support to ensure its sustainability. The MEDUSA project works to achieve that, and I saw that first-hand.”

Islam believes that the sub-grant will give Edom Adventures a strong push forward in the field of achieving the aforementioned goal, as a small micro-company and as a local community surrounding the path that will be developed. Finally, MEDUSA project sub-grant will contribute to adding a new path to the list of Bedouin trails that characterize the Wadi Rum region in particular. This will reflect positively on increasing job opportunities for the local community, service providers and future generations.
