In the context of the MEDISS project, Italian partner CRENoS is the scientific coordinator for awareness and capacity-building initiatives. It  includes activities related to the development of the human resources and to the creation of an empowering environment to activate virtuous pathways fostering sustainable development.

For this reason, in the pilot areas, the partners are implementing specific initiatives to transfer knowledge and inform about the program innovative solutions identified during three years project.

CRENoS and ENAS, in collaboration with the Graduate course in Economics and Management of Tourism Services promoted by Consorzio Universitario UNO of Oristano, have organized the workshop to discuss circular economy issues and present MEDISS opportunities. The workshop will be held on 14 October 2022 in the Multimedia Room of the University of Oristano.

The workshop will also provide a discussion space with representatives from the Swiss municipality of Yverdon-Les-Bains (29,977 inhabitants in the Canton of Vaud, capital of the Jura-Nord Vaudois District).

Iverdon is pioneering the treatment and revalorization of nitrogen in wastewater using the stripping technique in Europe. The same type of process is experimented with by MEDISS in Arborea, in the facilities of the Cooperativa Produttori.

The Yverdon-Les-Bains plant, which has been in operation since 1957 and treats approximately 11000 m3 of effluent per day, is undergoing extensive upgrading to reinforce the overall treatment capacity, improve the ecological balance and increase the treatment of micro-effluents. Today, thanks to the energetic valorization of sewage sludge, it has 80% electrical and 100% thermal autonomy.

Excellent results emerges in Arborea in livestock waste treatment with the elimination of ammonia and its subsequent valorization. The workshop represents a further opportunity for the MEDISS partners, beneficiaries, and stakeholders, to assess the potential of exploiting the results achieved so far.
