One of MEDISS milestones is to meet the climate challenges by looking at the specific needs of local territories. Strong emphasis is placed on the involvement of the local community in the project, creating links between farmers and supporting the spread of sustainable farming processes. For this reason, MEDISS partners are committed to further engage and involve institutional actors.

Laore Sardegna, the Regional Agency for Agricultural Development of Sardinia (Italy), adheres to the MEDISS project, sharing the common objective on sustainable agriculture, aiming at increasing the efficiency and effectiveness of water resources management, supporting local development and, at the same time, preserving the social, cultural and environmental heritage of the areas and communities involved.

Laore Sardegna, the Regional Agency that provides technical assistance in agriculture, is in charge of the implementation of agricultural and rural development programmes, supporting farmers and agricultural businesses in innovation processes, and promoting the dissemination of best agricultural practices (BAP). It advocates the integrated and sustainable development of territories, the production of quality products, the multifunctionality of agriculture, and the competitiveness of businesses.

Hence, Laore Sardegna plays an active role in projects finalized in sustainable development and circular economy. It has been working for several years in the Nitrates Vulnerable Zones (NVZ) of the lowland area of Arborea (MEDISS pilot site in Italy) to monitor the level of pollution caused by nitrates from agricultural sources.

Furthermore, Laore Sardegna is a partner in the Re-Live Waste project – financed by the European Interreg MED Programme – to improve Arborea livestock farms and their competitiveness, by reducing the environmental impact due to poor wastewater management, producing fertilizer by activating circular economy processes and adapting them to the local context.

Given its constant work carried out, Laore’s partnership within MEDISS activities will contribute to reaching the objectives set in the pilot site of Arborea, participating in the study phase, supporting the awareness activities and disseminating project results through its channels.
