Join Plastic Busters CAP e-course on marine litter monitoring and mitigation

Plastic Busters CAP organizes an e-course on marine litter monitoring and mitigation on 17 and 19 January which targets the Mediterranean marine litter practitioners and conservationists in order to enhance their capacities in designing and implementing a comprehensive marine litter monitoring strategy and in operationalizing tailor-made measures to address marine litter in the Mediterranean.

The e-course is organized by MIO-ECSDE and University of Siena with the support of the EU funded "Water and Environment Support (WES) in the ENI Neighbourhood South Region" project.

Marine litter is globally acknowledged as a major societal challenge of our times due to its significant environmental, economic, social, political and cultural implications. The Mediterranean is one of the most affected seas by marine litter and in particular plastics worldwide and it is clear that actions to address this threat are urgently needed.

The e-course will deal with the following themes:

  1. Monitoring approaches to assess the presence and effects of marine litter

         17th January 2023, 10.00-14.00 CET (4 hours)

  • Session 1 Monitoring approaches for macrolitter on the coastal & marine environment (1.5 hrs)
  • Session 2 Monitoring approaches for microlitter on the coastal & marine environment (1 hr)
  • Session 3 Monitoring approaches for marine litter presence and effects of biota (1.5 hrs)

 

    2. Measures to prevent and mitigate the effects of marine litter

        19th January 2023, 10.00-14.00 CET (4 hrs)

  • Session 1 Busting the myths and misconceptions related to marine litter solutions (0.5 hrs)
  • Session 2 Operationalising measures to address land-based sources of marine litter (2 hrs)
  • Session 3 Operationalising measures to address sea-based sources of marine litter (1.5 hrs)

It is possible to register here by the 10th of January 2023 at the latest and grab the opportunity to learn more on how to monitor and assess marine litter and how to operationalize targeted measures to address it.

The e-course will be held in English, while interpretation in Arabic will be also available.
