In the frame of the CROSSDEV project, CISP (Comitato Internazionale per lo Sviluppo dei Popoli, project’s beneficiary) and partner Palestinian Heritage Trail are conducting a “Community Based Tourism Promotional Trip for Students”. Participants are students from the Tourism Institute at Bethlehem University, associated partner of the project.
This activity is an essential step towards strengthening sustainable tourism on the new trail segment from Beit Mirsim to Battir, which is being developed thorugh the project. The purpose of the trip is to introduce concepts and examples of community-based tourism (CBT) to future tour and tourism operators, whom will be the main stakeholders in the tourism industry. Through hiking the PH Trail and meeting stakeholders from the involved local communities, students will learn about local services and products developed/supported within the project. This will lead to involving the targeted areas in tourism itineraries.
The hike is a 10 km easy – moderate guided hike, from the old city of Al Jaba’ to Ein Aljame’ (spring) in Battir. During the hike the participants will visit and learn about a new established guesthouse in Al Jaba’, then visit the women center in Wadi Fukin, and have the chance to buy from their locally handmade products. Then continue the hike to Husan for a short resting break at Ein Al Haweya (spring). The hike resumes to Battir, where participants will have lunch at Ein Aljame’ restaurant which is one of the PH Trail’ service providers.
Meeting Point: Bethlehem University, Bethlehem
Where: Al Jaba’ – Battir
When: Sunday, 16 May 2021

CROSSDEV aims at promoting socio-economic development by increasing the touristic attractiveness of less known destinations and rural areas, while protecting and valorizing the environment and the cultural heritage.
