On November 5^th, 2020, the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) hosted a virtual kick-off meeting of the PPI4MED, “Technological transfer and commercialisation of public research results through PPI in the Mediterranean region” project. The project is funded under ENI CBC Med Program 2014/2020 with a total EU contribution of €3.3 million, and it will last of two years and a half.

The objective of PPI4MED project is to create and implement a innovation procurement model for the commercialization of public scientific results in Egypt, Spain, Italy, Jordan and Tunisia, based on the purchasing capacity of the public sector.

The partners organisations, five national research centers, hold over 1,000 patents and have produced around 300 patent applications in 2020. These important public scientific and technology resources will be the basis for innovation procurement pilots, enabling private companies to develop products, technologies and solutions for the public sector based on these scientific patents.

The Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC) - leads the initiative together with four scientific institutions of the Mediterranean region, represented by the Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche (CNR), the Agence Nationale de la Promotion de la Recherche scientifique (ANPR), the National Research Centre (NRC) and the National Centre for Research and Development (NCRD).
