For the needs of the research in the framework of the project "MEDiterranean Quadruple Helix Approach to Digitalisation" (MED-QUAD), on the topic of water consumption, quality and savings in Mediterranean areas, representatives of the project met in Greece. On 12/05/2022, the representatives from the lifelong learning center Epimorfotiki Kilkis sm LLC (Coordinating partner from Greece), the International Hellenic University-IHU (project partner) the Municipal Water Supply and Sewerage Company of Kilkis-DEYAK (one of the associated project partners) and the Regional Unit of Kilkis designed two questionnaires of the research to be carried out in Greece, by the research team of the same university. The purpose of the research is to record consumers' knowledge about the saving, rational use and quality of drinking water, as well as the attitude of farmers towards the sustainable use of water for irrigation needs.

In the immediate future, a research team of IHU will carry out the research in selected parts of the city of Kilkis (GR) in collaboration with the scientific staff of the Municipal Water Supply and Sewerage Company of Kilkis (DEYAK). The research team designed the two targeted questionnaires to address two groups: drinking water consumers and farmers. Therefore, the data to be collected will relate to domestic use (drinking water) and irrigation use.

Similar research will be carried out by all five university project partners in 5 Mediterranean countries (Italy, Egypt, Tunisia, Jordan and Palestine) to exchange know-how and experiences gained and adopt valuable data on development. Sound practices are related to the use of technology in ensuring water quality and the quality of Mediterranean food products.

How are research results utilized and innovative digital services and products implemented?

The MED-QUAD project introduces the concept of the pilot living lab for "Smart Water Use Applications (SWUAP), where the results of the research will be utilized through its operation.

The general belief of the MED-QUAD project partners is that the research results can create a positive environmental impact in the Mediterranean regions. The key players of the Quadruple Helix approach, i.e., universities, businesses, local government and society, are invited to stay tuned to the MED-QUAD project page to learn about elements of paramount importance for the most valuable commodity: water.

Feel free to share and stay tuned for the next interesting actions of the living labs!
