“It was a first attempt to enable and implement the cutting-edge holoportation technology within a video game. We wanted to explore all the possibilities that this technology could offer to the gamification sector.” Said Marc Martos, manager, designer, and programmer at i2CAT games development within MED GAIMS project. Marc went on answering the following questions:

●    How challenging was it to integrate holoportation in a video game?

Like any other introduction of a cutting-edge technology, the process has been challenging, yet satisfying. The most satisfying challenges were those that emerged at the level of gameplay and how we had to creatively utilize holoportation to create the dynamics of the game.

●    How does it feel to be inside a video game?

Like any kind of immersive experience, it is impressive when you feel yourself in a totally new and unknown world. The feeling of immersion is emphasized as you act more like yourself. I encourage everyone to go through this wonderful experience.

●    Could holoportation increase the sensory and emotional connections with a place?

Indeed it could. You can feel both the place and yourself within the place. I sincerely believe that we are shaping the future of many industries such as cultural heritage, entertainment, gaming, or even communications.
It is amazing how you could feel the sharing of a place with other people and you could sense their presence and almost the same connection as if you were physically together.

●    Do you think the application of the holoportation could be in the future a solution for museums and tourism sites?

As I said earlier, I believe we are shaping the future of such industries. It is an evolutionary step for them. This technology is the leverage that was needed to left the sector to the next level. They need to learn from success stories in other sectors and move to the forefront.
