The BEEP project has been selected as one of the ten reference projects to be capitalized by the new ENI CBC MED funded project SEACAP 4 SDG. 

Last January 12, the Royal Scientific Society (RSS) and the National Energy Research Centre (NERC), Jordan BEEP project partners and also partners of the new SEACAP 4 SDG project, presented BEEP project and the work done in the framework of the project to date, in an on-line working meeting of the SEACAP 4 SDG project.

SEACAP 4 SDG  will consider the Sustainable Energy Access and Climate Action Plans (SE(A)CAP) background, under a common vision, strategy, and evaluation tool, to achieve Med SE(A)CAP integration through uniform adapted assessment and financing methods, mainly targeting buildings in education and health sectors, for sustainable development goals in a smart society.

To this end, the outputs and outcomes of ten selected reference projects will be taken into account. In the case of the BEEP project, the aim is to extrapolate the results obtained in this project for heritage buildings to other types of public buildings in order to improve their energy efficiency. In particular, will be considered:

• Tools and technologies involving the generation and management of digital representation of buildings.
• Further development of EPC -Energy Performance Contracting- as a methodology to address one of the main issues related to the renovation of public buildings: the difficulty to access to funds.

About the BEEP project:

BEEP project aims at strengthening the use of Building Information Modelling (BIM) to enhance energy efficiency in buildings. The testing of this emerging technology on built heritage will be performed to demonstrate its scalability to the entire building stock. The project will provide public administrations with a powerful method for the energy rehabilitation of public buildings to be supported with private funds through the Energy Performance Contracting (*). The project main outcome will be an innovative methodology based on the integration of emerging technologies tested on 9 heritage public buildings located in Italy, Spain, Cyprus, Jordan, Palestine, Lebanon, and Egypt.

(*) Energy performance contracting (EPC) is a mechanism for organising the energy efficiency financing. The EPC involves an Energy Service Company (ESCO) which provides various services, such as finances and guaranteed energy savings. The remuneration of the ESCO depends on the achievement of the guaranteed savings. The ESCO stays involved in the measurement and verification process for the energy savings in the repayment period. ESCO and energy performance contracting are mostly found in the public sector and to a lesser extent in the industrial and commercial building sectors (Hilke and Ryan, 2012).
