Municipalities of Sakiet Ezzit and Sfax in Tunisia started to organise an event to promote the reuse of school supplies with the help of civil society and NGOs. Thanks to that activity 10 tons of papers were collected and sold to get funds for schools repair in 2019 last edition. And, the paper recycled had had a certain environmental impact, allowing to save about 170 trees.

School supplies reuse have social, economic and environmental impacts. A lot of energy is spent to create new products: raw materials must be extracted from the earth, the product must be manufactured, then transported… Thus, the more you reuse school supplies, the less you put in the bien, the more money is saved. Answering to this concern, municipalities of Sakiet Ezzit and Sfax, in Tunisia, started to organise an event in 2019 to promote the reuse of school supplies with the help of civil society and NGOs.

In fact, the event was organized before the start of the school year at the beginning of September. A large campaign to promote this event was developed on social media, local radio, mosques, and through banners with a view to collect significant amounts of reusable school supplies like books, pencils, etc., but also old school supplies especially paper to be recycled.

Thanks to that activity 10 tons of paper were collected and sold to get funds for school repair in the 2019 edition. And, the paper recycled had had a certain environmental impact, allowing to save about 170 trees. That may interest not only Tunisian municipalities but also any municipality in the world. This last aspect has also been highly valued by those responsible for REUSEMED.

REUSEMED proposes to create municipal networks based on reuse circuits for home appliances, furniture, books, clothes, Waste Electrical & Electronic Equipment and food. To set up the networks, 4 cities in Spain, Italy, Jordan and Tunisia will design and test composting installations, food collection points in markets, repair and reuse centers, reuse corners in shops and repairing cafes.
