The Nablus Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Palestine and Business Consultancy and Training Services (BCTS) in Lebanon, as technical partners of "Reinforcing social and solidarity economy for the unemployed, uneducated and refugees" Project (MoreThanAJob Project), concluded a series of training seminars organized for the Social and Solidarity Economy (SSE) Actors. The training seminars were held via Zoom platform in February and March, 2021.

An Integrated Policy Approach to Social Inclusion was designed and discussed by the participants and the trainers in order to improve the employability of migrants, and disadvantaged groups in Palestine and Lebanon. Alongside this process of Integrated Policy Approach to social inclusion, a range of other social needs through the integrated approach was essential to simultaneously addressed.

Employability was addressed both in the context of social inclusion and in the context of measures to foster economic and social development. The trainers taught the participants how to adopt a tailored case-management approach to meet the diverse needs of disadvantaged groups and individuals better on a practice level.

The trainingprovided a unique opportunity for participants to build a common understanding of the principles of vocational qualification with a focus on ‘soft’ skills; the importance of linking with businesses and tailoring to employers’ needs combined with matching with the disadvantaged individuals’ needs, and supported entrepreneurship based on principles of empowerment.

The objectives of these training seminars are to cover the project framework activities in relation to social schemes: the labor market integration through skills matching and youth empowerment, and support innovation and entrepreneurship.

The following topics were discussed during the training seminars: introduction to MoreThanAJob project & framework of adopted best practices and social schemes, the key training and facilitation skills and techniques, best practices in youth empowerment and engagement (towards a better society), innovation and entrepreneurship, entrepreneurship supporting best practices, and entrepreneurial skills and tools.

Moreover, the training seminars aimed at providing a platform for learning and exchanging of ideas and experiences for an effective and vibrant social economy.

Participants learned how to advance the social economy through a new development paradigm: the pursuit of specific social and environmental objectives in a way that fosters solidarity. Also, the training built a common understanding of the concept of the SSE among the participants through mapping the SSE through its most common types of enterprises and organizations.

Furthermore, it equipped the participants with knowledge to better sustain and improve the economic and social conditions of their communities and to develop their competitiveness and contribution to local economic development.

The training offered the participants practical insights on how to boost inclusive and sustainable development in Palestine and Lebanon. Also, participants discussed several themes including the impact of SSE in local economic development and job creation in a sustainable way. 

The training focused on sharing experiences and appropriate policy responses to foster a vibrant local SSE sector and its place in addressing the employment and economic challenges in Palestine and Lebanon.
