Respecting the local rules related to the Coronavirus emergency, the activities of the PROSIM project continued in Jordan with the process of collecting baseline data in Aqaba governorate carried out by the National Agricultural Research Centre (NARC).

The process allowed to identify the plots where project activities will be implemented. In particular, in the Aqaba area, approximately 15 farmers will be involved in the project, contacted and selected for the implementation of the activities. In this area, 4 innovative solutions for water efficiency in irrigation and non conventional water use will be tested in 7 hectares. Among these solutions, sensors (IS4) and filtration system (IS5) for fruit trees will be tested.

Through these tests, PROSIM project (“Promoting Sustainable Irrigation Management and non-conventional water use in the Mediterranean”) aims to reduce pressure on water resources by implementing improved irrigation solutions that ensure an increased water-use efficiency and a larger use of non-conventional water. The activities to be implemented in Jordan have the objective of becoming a scalable practice for local farmers, which aim to increase the productivity of their crops, while reducing water resource use.
