On May 19, the 4th Steering Committee Meeting of the BEEP project was held with the aim of sharing the progress made so far. Full agenda (click here).

The meeting was moderated by the Institute of Heritage Science (ISPC-CNR), BEEP project beneficiaries, who opened the session by introducing management and financing aspects and present an update of the Italian case study, “Palazzo del Clementino” located in Rome. Next, each of the partners presented the tasks carried out during the last period, and updated the status of their case study in Spain, Cyprus, Jordan, Palestine, Lebanon, and Egypt.

Currently, and according to the planned schedule, the BEEP project is focused on carrying out the energy analyses of the pilot buildings and the implementation of the results obtained in the digital models that have been created using the “Building Information Modeling (BIM)” methodology.

BIM is a collaborative work methodology for the creation and management of a construction project. Its objective is to centralize all the information of the project in a single digital information model, useful for all the actors involved in the construction process and during all the phases that a building experiences: design, construction, use, maintenance and even demolition. In summary, BIM represents the evolution of traditional design systems based on drawings and plans, since it incorporates geometric (3D), time (4D), cost (5D), environmental (6D) and maintenance (7D) information.

In the BEEP project, the digital models created with the BIM methodology applied to Heritage (H-BIM) will be the basis of the energy simulations that will be carried out for three possible retrofit scenarios (short, medium and long term).

During the meeting, special attention was paid to the successful recovering of the gaps in project activities, since the health emergency situation derived from COVID-19 resulted in significant delays in the activities planned for the past year.

The following next project activities and milestones were also announced:
•    Optional training for project partners on the MIS platform (Thursday 20th May, 10:00 – 11:00 CET);
•    Capacity-building workshop in data exchange between modelling software and simulation software (Thursday 27th May, 14:00 – 16:00 CET);
•    Upcoming deadlines for project reporting.

About the BEEP project:
BEEP project aims at strengthening the use of Building Information Modeling (BIM) to enhance energy efficiency in buildings. The testing of this emerging technology on built heritage will be performed to demonstrate its scalability to the entire building stock. The project will provide public administrations with a powerful method for the energy rehabilitation of public buildings to be supported with private funds through the Energy Performance Contracting. The project main outcome will be an innovative methodology based on the integration of emerging technologies tested on heritage public buildings.
