ENSERES partners meet in Oristano, Italy to learn about coastal wetland management

An exchange visit has been organised by the MEDSEA Foundation, partner in the ENSERES project, as a laboratory of active participation with partners and associated partners of the ENSERES project, to share the approach and the governance methods of the Maristanis project. Maristanis is an international cooperation project that aims at defining an integrated management model for the coastal wetlands of the Gulf of Oristano in Italy; cofunded by the MAVA Foundation and coordinated by the MEDSEA Foundation in collaboration with the Marine Protected Area "Sinis Peninsula - Mal di Ventre island". MARISTANIS is working in parallel with three other projects cofunded by MAVA in Tunisia, Montenegro and Albania.

The purpose of the visit is to evaluate the transferability potential of the MARISTANIS approach to the ENSERES pilot sites in Tunisia (Sfax) and Lebanon (Tyre). Moreover, wetlands restoration, marine litter, sustainable agriculture and restoration of marine habitats have been the topics previously identified by the ENSERES pilot sites during previous discussion meetings organized in July and September 2022 among the wide variety of tools included in the joint Mediterranean Biodiversity Protection Community and ENSERES toolkit under preparation.

The ENSERES project partners will keep on working to provide additional capacity building opportunities to improve the integrated management of coastal areas and improve their socio-ecological resilience through the adoption of effective and participatory nature conservation approaches.
