The ENI CBC MED program will participate in the seminar "Building Climate Resilence in the Western Mediterranean: Water and Climate Change Adaption Nexus", that will take place on March 9, 2022 in Valencia (Spain) ahead of the third Ministerial Conference on Water of the Western Mediterranean Forum (Dialogue 5+5) on 10 March 2022.

The event is organized by MedThink 5+5, a network of think tanks and public diplomacy institutions promoting regional integration and cooperation in the Western Mediterranean. It is co-organized by the European Institute of the Mediterranean (IEMed) and the Mediterranean Network of Basin Organisations (MENBO).

The aim of the seminar is to create a debate for politicians, scientific experts and civil society organizations to share experiences and ideas on how we can face climate change effects on water security in the Western Mediterranean, one of the greatest challenges of the region.

ENI CBC MED programme is glad to participate in such an important event through the Coordinator of the Programme Branch Office for the Western Mediterranean, Mr. Vincent Ernoux who will, during the third session of the seminar, present the ENI CBC MED programme results in the field of water and introduce the funding opportunities of the future Interreg Next MED 2021-2027 Programme. This session focusing on funding the adaptation to climate change in the water sector is foreseen at 3:30PM.
Water has been at the heart of the ENPI CBC MED and ENI CBC MED programmes and so it will remain during the upcoming INTERREG NEXT MED where challenges like providing an equal access to water and developing sustainable water management will be among the main topics covered by one of the Specific Objectives.

As a main result of the event, the exchange of ideas and experiences emerging from the different panels will lead to the creation of recommendations for public policies regarding water management.

The event can be followed on-line on the Youtube Channel of IEMed.

About the 5+5 Dialogue

The 5+5 Dialogue serves as a sub-regional forum for the ten Western Mediterranean countries that take part since its creation, five from the north of the Mediterranean (Spain, France, Italy, Malta and Portugal) and five from the southern shore (Algeria, Libya, Morocco, Mauritania and Tunisia). It constituted one of the first prolific initiatives between Mediterranean countries and a prelude of the structures that were built with the Barcelona Process from 1995 onwards.
