'Bees make the world go round', MedBEESinessHubs celebrates World Bee Day in Cyprus

Under the theme "Bees make the world go round" MedBEESinessHubs joins forces with the Pancyprian Beekeepers Association to celebrate World Bee Day 2023.

This year celebrations in Cyprus will take place in the honey village of Ora. Universities, educational and research institutions, beekeepers and farmers, environmental organizations, and volunteers join hands and efforts to protect the bees and other pollinators, with pollinator-friendly agricultural production, and raising awareness about the importance of bees for our survival.

The President of the Cyprus Parliament referred to the role of the bees as the most important pollinators of nature, which contribute directly to the preservation of the sensitive ecosystems of our planet, as well as to the health and well-being of the people.

"The climate change and the environmental crisis threatens human activity, our health and ecosystems worldwide, from the forests of Siberia and the Arctic to the forests of Australia, the Mediterranean and Cyprus. By protecting the bees, we maintain the delicate balances of our planet's ecosystem of life, we preserve human life", Mrs Demetriou noted.

The Bee Festival is a multidimensional platform of awareness and action on the importance of the bees in our lives, with skill development workshop, rich educational and entertainment program, will contain presentations by experts, interactive workshops on the creation of natural cosmetics with wax, jewelry with bees, bee hotels and bee oases, arts and crafts related to bees, and bee friendly plants.

By improving the living conditions of the bees, we are improving our living conditions!

Let's work together to

  1. Raise awareness about the importance of the survival of our pollinators
  2. Plant bee friendly plants that have nectar on our balconies, terraces and gardens, and create an oasis for us and our pollinators
  3. Preserve the wild vegetation, which features the most diverse array of flowers
  4. Use only natural pesticides, which do not harm the bees and spray in windless weather, either very early in the morning or late at night, when the bees withdraw from the flowers

Be part of the global effort to support pollinator-friendly agricultural production , through evidence-based practices.

Every time we plant a bee-friendly plant we provide food for bees and other pollinators and increase the variety of fruits and vegetables on our tables!! We also contribute to nature conservation for future generations!!

The Bee Festival 2023 has been placed under the auspices of the Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment Mr. Petros Xenofontos and the Commissioner for the Environment Mrs. Maria Panayiotou.

During the festival and throughout the community there will be a large market with honey and beehive products, traditional dishes with honey, handicrafts etc. There will also be a rich entertainment program with songs and dances.

Join us and celebrate with us 'World Bee Day'.
