On the 3rd of February 2021 at the School of Nursing of the University of Seville, the coordinating entity of the TEC-MED European project, a workshop was carried out in relation to a socio-ethical-care model for the dependent person and people at risk of exclusion.   

The topic of the workshop was “TEC-MED model: Detection of training needs with stakeholders and target group”.  

Because of the Covid-19 pandemic, the workshop was celebrated online with 50 participants. The main goal was to identify the training needs of the target groups, as well as stakeholders. Ana María Porcel Gálvez, coordinator of the project, has stressed the importance of developing this workshop with the different stakeholders as experts who can provide valuable information regarding the detection of these needs. 

The plenary sessions of the workshop, consisting in the sharing of the key aspects of the TEC-MED Model (dimensions, levels, transversal keys, target groups, final beneficiaries), and the presentation of the Capacity Building Protocol (State of the art, nine domains, stakeholder, networks and key agents). 

The workshop was structured in 7 parallel intermediate sessions have been developed where a work methodology has been carried out through a nominal group chosen to detect training needs promoting global participation. This technique guaranteed heterogeneous participation, putting in value the knowledge and experience of each participant. 

In each workshop there have been interesting debates, evidencing the commitment to the project and the alignment with the TEC-MED model. In general, three categories of analysis can be evidenced that have been central in the 7 workshops: ethics, training and legislation. 

Ana María Porcel Gálvez has emphasized the importance of the TEC-MED model, "We must achieve a change in the paradigm and achieve dignity in the lives of the elderly," said the coordinator. From the TEC-MED project we are helping to make it possible thanks to the development and elaboration of a care model centered on the person, “in which more than 350 people have contributed, expert professionals in the field of care and care in the Mediterranean basin”, explains Ana María Porcel. 

The identification of stakeholders and their needs during the workshop 

As the main actor, the participants included the final beneficiaries: People over 65 years of age, dependents, and/or at risk of social exclusion who require social and health care. 

In conjunction with this main actor, would be the non-professional caregivers: individuals who dedicate themselves individually to the care of the elderly in an unpaid way, dependent and/or at risk of social exclusion (e.g., family members). The model includes this group of persons because they need individual training to give care to the elderly.   

The third pillar would be the health professionals: socio-health personnel who dedicate themselves in a professional and paid manner to the care of dependent elderly people and/or at risk of social exclusion. They would teach to the non-professional caregivers.  

On the other hand, health services companies, associations, foundations, dedicated to socio-health care and public administration: would be the fourth pillar in the TEC-MED model because they can change and create public care services and policies.
