The DECOST project team in Jordan, integrated by the Irbid Agriculture Directorate and the Jordan University of Science and Technology, held a workshop in Irbid to present their pilot to introduce community composting as the primary strategy for managing organic waste in a Mediterranean town. The workshop was attended by representatives from various local agricultural directorates, who were interested in learning about the implementation of the pilot project in Jordan and its potential links with agricultural activity.

During the workshop, Dr. Munir Al-Rousan from the Jordan University of Science and Technology spoke about the project's activities and how to safely produce organic compost from household organic waste. The DECOST pilot experience, which combined home and community composting and created links with urban agriculture development, was implemented in Al-Saru and was the first of its kind in Jordan.

The attendees and project team discussed the challenges and prospects of implementing organic and inorganic waste disposal activities and the importance of raising awareness to implement sustainable solutions that consider the environment in the short and long term. The workshop also included a review of the experience of creating organic fertilizer in the project implementation area, Al-Saru Municipality, with the participation of the Mayor, Dr. Omar Al-Oudat, and the Technical Director, Eng. Jihad Obaidat.
